Fire Mitigation

Defensible space that protects what you've built.

Fire Mitigation

Mountain properties face real wildfire risk — especially during dry seasons. Creating defensible space around your home is one of the most effective steps you can take to protect your property and family. Krause Arborist follows Firewise USA guidelines to clear vegetation strategically, reduce fuel loads, and create buffer zones that slow or stop fire spread without stripping your landscape bare.

What We Offer

Defensible Space Zones

Creating the three zones of defensible space around your home per Firewise guidelines.

Fuel Load Reduction

Removing dead wood, brush piles, and dense undergrowth that feed wildfires.

Crown Spacing

Thinning tree canopies to prevent fire from jumping tree-to-tree.

Ladder Fuel Removal

Clearing low branches and shrubs that carry ground fires into the canopy.

Property Assessment

Full wildfire risk evaluation with prioritized recommendations.

How It Works

01

Risk Assessment

We evaluate your property's fire risk — topography, vegetation, access, and structure proximity.

02

Mitigation Plan

A prioritized plan covering all three defensible space zones around your home.

03

Vegetation Management

Strategic clearing, thinning, and pruning to reduce fuel and create fire breaks.

04

Annual Maintenance

Vegetation grows back. We offer annual follow-up to keep your defensible space effective.

Common Questions

What is defensible space?+
Defensible space is the buffer zone between your home and the surrounding wildland where vegetation is managed to slow or stop fire spread. It's typically divided into three zones extending outward from your structure.
How far should defensible space extend?+
Firewise guidelines recommend at least 30 feet of managed space (Zone 1), with reduced vegetation extending 100 feet or more (Zones 2 and 3) depending on slope and vegetation type.
Do I have to remove all my trees?+
Not at all. The goal is to thin and space vegetation, not eliminate it. We focus on removing dead material, reducing density, and breaking up continuous fuel paths while keeping your property beautiful.
